Te Vaka Ahurea
At Multicultural Educational Campaigns New Zealand (MECnz), our work is guided by respect, inclusion, and partnership. We recognise Māori as tangata whenua and honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the foundation of Aotearoa New Zealand, while celebrating the richness of our diverse multicultural communities. Guided by the values of manaakitanga (care and respect), whanaungatanga (connection), aroha (compassion), and kotahitanga (unity), we work through multicultural education, youth empowerment, and community initiatives to build understanding, reduce racism, and create spaces where everyone feels valued and included. Supported by the New Zealand Human Rights Commission, our campaigns promote messages such as “Give Nothing to Racism”, encouraging equity, respect, and stronger connections across our communities.

Te Hui Ahurea Kanorau - The Cultural Diversity Festival
Multicultural Educational Campaigns New Zealand (MECnz) is a community organisation dedicated to promoting inclusion, cultural understanding, and educational opportunities for ethnic communities across Aotearoa New Zealand. We support multicultural school programmes, migrant and former refugee families, and young people through four key initiatives: the Multicultural Youth Collective Horowhenua–Kāpiti, ESOL and family support programmes, school and community engagement activities, and Cultural Diversity Festivals. Through these initiatives, MECnz empowers communities, celebrates cultural diversity, strengthens connections, and creates opportunities for everyone to belong and thrive.
ESOL Classes & Whanau Support
MECnz & UCOL is proud to partner with Horowhenua College music and Spanish teacher, Fernando Figueroa, to deliver English language lessons for Latin American former refugee and migrant families across the Horowhenua and Kāpiti rohe. The Intro to English course, taught by Figueroa after school at Horowhenua College as part of his postgraduate educational studies, forms part of a wider community project designed to support migrant and former refugee families by strengthening their English skills, confidence, and connection with the community.
The Multicultural Youth Collective empowers young leaders from diverse backgrounds to share their voices, challenge racism, and promote equity and inclusion within schools and communities. Through initiatives such as the “Give Nothing to Racism” campaign, the Collective provides young people with a platform to lead with confidence, celebrate their cultural identities, and create positive change. It supports youth to develop leadership skills, build connections across diverse communities, and strengthen a sense of belonging within Aotearoa New Zealand. Meet some of the inspiring young leaders from the Multicultural Youth Collective.
